Info: WANG Laboratories, founded by Dr. An WANG, was a dominant force in the 1960s and early 70s. Before they became a word-processing giant, they were the ‘go-to’ for scientists and engineers who needed more power than a slide rule but didn't have access to a mainframe computer.


By the mid-1970s, the ‘Calculator Wars’ were becoming a race to the bottom in terms of price. Seeing the rise of cheap microprocessors from INTEL and others, Dr. WANG pivoted the company toward Minicomputers and the famous Wang Word Processor (WPS), which eventually defined the company in the 1980s.
